Recently, something new has come to the city. Are you ready guys? This brand new, luxurious Fortnum and Mason shop have arrived in the heart of The Royal Exchange. To any Fortnum fans out there, it’s time for some first-class shopping in a new, desirable location- bringing Fortnum & Mason to the heart of the city for the first time, along with an exclusive dining destination in the form of The Fortnum’s Bar & Restaurant.

Fortnum & Mason (colloquially often shortened to just “Fortnum’s”) is an upmarket department store in Piccadilly, London, with additional stores at St Pancras railway station and Heathrow Airport in London, as well as various stockists worldwide. Its headquarters are located at 181 Piccadilly, where it was established in 1707 by William Fortnum and Hugh Mason, but is now extending into the city. The brand itself has established its own colour, Eau de Nil which is their iconic tone of blue and, going forward over many years, Fortnum and Mason have developed a well-recognised reputation for innovation. Believe it or not,  they are the inventors of the Scotch Egg and were the first to stock Heinz Baked Beans. More recently they invented the frozen champagne pop, a luxury take on the Calippo.

Attracting well-deserved attention as a recently opened venue, this is an ideal place to visit, with hours that will now operate six days a week, just in time for the holiday season As the City of London pretty much shuts down at weekends, Fortnum’s are bringing new life to the area, with Saturday opening hours of 8am-8pm – a perfect escape for the weekend where the slightly slower pace allows you to freely browse around The Royal Exchange, enjoy the variety of less usual shops, book a table for brunch or lunch and simply relax and watch people passing by.

I pop into the store and feel my excitement start to bubble as I look out for their sweet treats. All the products on the shelves have been impeccably displayed by the highly professional, well-presented staff, which makes it so easy to find what we need. Perfect for those working in the city who have only a very short time to find exactly what they are looking for before they rush back to the office. Meanwhile, before you start looking and thinking about your favourite tea blend, I would like to introduce you to the latest Fortnum’s launch – a special Royal Exchange tea that you can sample in the store.

I find my way through the confectionary to the beverage area, looking for a little inspiration, as I will be hosting my family at Christmas in London this year. I will be preparing some of the Christmas lunch beforehand, as I wouldn’t want to ruin any of Fortnum’s groceries on Christmas Day. I will trust myself with a glass of champagne like a pro and all will be fine (fingers and toes crossed with a big smile plastered on my face!).

You can also pop into the new Fortnum and Mason shop at The Royal Exchange while dining at the Fortnum’s restaurant. There’s an island bar where you can treat yourself to a glass of champagne or a martini while nibbling some snacks, or perhaps you prefer a moment to unwind in the dining area and let yourself drift away from the busy hubbub of city people surrounding you. I can’t help but stare at their fabulous Eau de Nil dining chairs which bring this vast building to life, and shows off that distinctive Fortnum’s trademark within seconds, even from a distance. The waiter guides us through the menu and immediately I spot their signature Scotch Egg, something I have never tried before. The menu is full of hearty British dishes, along with a touch of international flair and a wide range of wines to choose from.

With Christmas only a couple of weeks away, this is a perfect place to shop – somewhere you can pop in for a mind-boggling selection of luxury chocolates, biscuits and tea, not to mention their stunning home collection too. Here, you will find everything you need for Christmas with your family, friends and loved ones. Fortnum and Mason have it all under one roof, so I will certainly be sneaking back again to buy my last-minute gifts! For more information, please check on their website and I would like to wish you all a happy shopping and dining experience with Fortnum and Mason.
